Being a mother is one of the best things that have happened to me. I have a son, and if anyone had told me that it was possible to love a person that much, I would never have believed them.
The beautiful thing about being a mom to this incredible human being is that it took all of my life and changed IT.
As human beings, we tend to have mental boxes for everything and everyone in our lives. We sometimes make the mistake of trying to slide new people into boxes, trying to get them to fit our already fixed life. A baby does not fit in. They do not care about your boxes or your fixed life. They disrupt your life, and it is one of the best things ever.
A new life to love and cherish.
I have always wanted a child. Boy or girl, it didn’t matter as long as I had a child I could pour my all into.
I didn’t wait till I gave birth before discovering my baby sex, I wanted to know. I was excited when I discovered that I was pregnant. It was a dream come true for me, and I couldn’t wait to meet this wonderful human being.
During my pregnancy, I will talk to him, reading my books aloud, playing music for him, and telling him what I was doing. We connected even when he was in the womb. I remember how he would kick and rumble whenever he heard my voice or a song I loved.
The day I met my son when he was born, I felt like my heart was going to burst from all the love that welled up within me. I saw his little toes and fingers, all complete with his father’s hair, and I fell in love all over again.
Having my son has been a privilege. I had a son I could love and cherish. A son I could teach and be obsessed about.
It is one of the things I am most grateful for. I could be anyone on earth, but being a mother and a mother to my son is the perfect person for me.
The best thing.
I have an amazing career and a beautiful marriage. I have great friends that I hold dear. In all of these, I still maintain that my son is the best thing that has happened to me all my life.
Watching him grow up to become the person he is has been the highlight of my life. He has grown into someone I am proud of. I have lived through the ups and downs of his life. I have watched him go from a crawling 2-toothed baby to an enigmatic young man.
My life is full and blessed, and if I have to do it all over again, I will do so gladly.
I love my son dearly, and I am grateful for every moment I have had him.
